screen. The Polar Bears are located in the Tundra Trek Section of the Toronto Zoo.
The Polar Bear [Ursus maritimus] is native to the Arctic Circle. It is one of the world's largest bears with an adult male weighing about 770 - 1,500 pounds and females being about half that size. It is well adapted for cold temperatures and living and feeding in snow, ice and open water. It is a carnivore which means it eats meat. It's favourite food is in fact seal meat. The images below are all of "Hudson", a male Polar Bear born at the Toronto Zoo in October of 2011. In these pictures he is just over one year old with a lot of growing still to do.

Notice Hudson's large furry feet and sharp, stocky claws. These give him good traction on ice.

Did you know... that a male bear has long hairs on their forelegs. This is thought to be ornamental and very attractive to female polar bears.
