The Bennett's Wallabys are located in the Australasia Outdoor Exhibit at the Toronto Zoo
Wallaby's [Macropus rufogriseus] are part of the Macropodidae family. They are also known as "Red-necked Wallabys", "Brush Wallaby", "Eastern Brush Wallaby", "Brush Kangaroo", and "Brusher". The name is used for animals of this type that are smaller than kangaroos or wallaroos. They are approximately 24 to 30 inches in height and weigh between 30 - 50 pounds. Male wallabies are called “bucks”, “boomers”, or “jacks” while females are called “does”, “flyers” or “jills”. A baby wallaby is a “joey”. A group of wallabies is called a “court”, “mob”, or “troup”. In the wild, wallabies eat grasses, vegetables and leaves and foliage. In the images below a wallaby at the Toronto Zoo enjoys some celery. Wallabies are native to Australia where they live in remote wooded areas. They are the most nocturnal of the kangaroo and wallaby species. Want

Notice the long, tapered tail. It is used for balance when jumping and combined with their hinds legs, acts as a tripod for sitting. The tail also works like a rudder when bounding from predators allowing the Wallaby to change direction quickly.
