I find peace, solitude and beauty when visiting the final resting places of those who have gone before us. When visiting a cemetery, please be respectful of the graves, of mourners, and of others who may be visiting. By reading the epitaphs of headstones and final farewells from family members, you can learn a lot about history. The tombstones that mark the final resting places of the dead, are often the only evidence that we have left about the people who lived in the area. The writings on the stones offer us clues to relationships, accomplishments and events. The artists who create the headstones convey not only their vision, but that of the family, as the final statement and gift to the loved one who has gone before. I find spending time in cemeteries to be quite beautiful and very moving. These photographs have been posted with the utmost respect for the deceased. Please use your discretion when using these images - give those resting beneath the headstones the dignity they deserve.
