Oats Oats, Avena sativa, is a favourite for breakfast cereals and cookies because of its naturally sweet flavour. Oats are typically steamed and flattened to produce oat flakes to speed the cooking process. Steel-cut oats slice the oat kernel into smaller pieces to allow water to more easily penetrate and cook the grain.

Barley & Oats Grown Together Intercropping involves growing two or more cash crops on the same field. It is often used in organic grain production since it improves resource use. When light, water and nutrients are used by crops, the instance of weed growth and the necessity for weed control is reduced. Growing crops with the right combination results in over-yielding. This occurs when the two crops grown together yield more grain than a single crop would have yielded on the same land alone.
