Religion & Faith Faith is a belief in a set of religious doctrines. It is the confident or unquestioning belief in the truth or idea of a person, idea, or thing. It is the strong or unshakeable belief in something, especially without proof or evidence. When it comes to theology, faith is a conviction of the truth or certain doctrines of a religion. Religion is a little harder to define. Some may say that religion is a belief in and reverence for a supernatural power, but this meaning would exclude some forms of Jainism and Buddhism. A religion is an organized set of beliefs, cultural systems and world views in connection with humanity and an order of existence. Religions have rules regarding behaviour, clergy, holy places, and writings or scriptures. Religious practice includes rituals, sermons, sacrifices, and services. Some religions place an emphasis on belief, while other stress practice. James Livingston, in his book Anatomy of the Sacred, An Introduction to Religion suggests that "religion is that system of activities and beliefs directed toward that which is perceived to be of sacred value and transforming power." The following images all deal in some way with religion and faith. Only a small number of religions are represented. I plan on adding more to this small category in the near future.
